Tonight's BBQ is at Central Fields!
BBQ #2 is happening tonight (Wednesday, August 18th) at Central Fields. Come on out, watch the finals of the league and enjoy some fun disc games and tasty treats!
Update to the Wednesday Night League Pickup Policy
Effective June 9th, teams that can only put 5:2 on the line do not need to forfeit their game. See below for some updates to our co-ed league policies.
- A team that is able to put 5:2 on the line within 20 minutes of the start time does not need to forfeit their game. Only have one lady? This is a default.
- Co-ed remains a 4:3 or 3:4 league. If your team has three ladies, play 4:3 as much as possible and only use the 5:2 as a temporary break.
- No 6:1 permitted.
Pick-ups are an absolute last resort. For the time being, only Female players may be picked up. No Male pick-ups. See below for pick-up restrictions and recommendations:
- Pick-ups are NOT permitted if you can field three registered women. Only pick up a player if you are at risk of forfeit/two or fewer women.
- Picking up a player from Tuesday league? Their first game is free. After that they need to register for Wednesdays or pay a drop-in fee.
- Does an opposing captain have a plethora of eager-to-play ladies? Do you know of a co-ed team that always has 6-7 women show up? Consider sharing. Co-ed League is a RECREATIONAL league. Spirit of the Game and Fair Play come first! Try picking up from within Wednesday League before looking elsewhere.
- Be honest and let the other captain know if you are fielding a pick-up player. Better yet, be courteous to your opponent ahead of time. Contact the opposing captain so that 1) they can try to pick-up if they are also short, or 2) they can veto your choice if it's truly felt to be unreasonable.
We are confident that captains will be fair in their selection and use of pick-up women. Try to pick up newer women. Don't pick up a game-changing ringer as this will skew the game and team balance for everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can sign-up to play?
Anyone. Everyone. All of us!!
Summer league is about fun, development, and growth within the Victoria Ultimate community. It's a great way to meet new people and renew old friendships (and rivalries!).
The Co-ed Hat League on Wednesday nights is historically a fun and exciting way for new players to be introduced to the game and for local veterans to pass on their smarts.
New to Victoria this year, the separate Women's and Men's leagues on Tuesday nights will likely be a more competitive experience, but both are still open to all who are interested in improving their game.
How do I sign-up?
Option a) Online Registration (CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP NOW!)
This year, registration will only be done online through the VUPS website. This will also be the only way we accept payment (i.e., via PayPal). There will be no registration or payment of any type received at the fields this year.
Option b) Come to the Registration Party at Oak Bay Rec! (details below)
This is your one and only chance to register in person and pay with cash or cheque. Have we mentioned that there will be no registration or payment taken at the fields this year? We really mean it. None.
There's a Registration Party? Tell me more!!
We will be host a registration party at the Oak Bay Recreation Center on Tuesday, April 13. We'll be up accepting registrations up in the lounge from 6:30-9:30pm.
Also, we have booked the Indoor Soccer Field for 5-on-5 Indoor Ultimate from 7-9pm.
Bring your cleats! Bring your money! Bring your friends!
When will games be held?
Introductory skills clinics (Ulti 101/102) will be held April 21st and 28th at Uplands Elementary starting at 6pm on . An Ulti 201 clinic, for the intermediate player with some tourneys under their belt, or those wanting to really 'up' their gameplay/strategy on the field is also in the works. Stay tuned.
Games run from the first week in May through to August (details to follow). Please let us know if you will be away large blocks of time (e.g. 3 weeks or more) at the time of registration to assist with the creating of equal teams.
What time will games start at?
Fields are booked from 5-9 pm. A schedule of game times will be determined after registration closes. We offer two time slots per night so it is important to start games on time.
Schedules (and last minute changes to schedules/field locations) will always be posted on the vups website. You can also follow VUPS Summer League on Twitter and Facebook.
Where will I be playing?
Tuesday night fields are a combination of Margaret Jenkins Elementary in Fairfield and Frank Hobbs Elementary in Gordon Head. Likely one field will be men's and one field women's at the same location. Because the men and women will possibly be playing at two different locations, there are no guarantees for those partners with kids or carpools that they will always be on the same fields.
Wednesday night fields will be a combination of Central Middle School and Uplands Elementary. The registration form includes a space for you to request a specific teammate e.g. someone else to help ease childcare and carpooling concerns.
What equipment do I need?
- Cleats! Non-cleated footwear (i.e. running shoes) is permitted, but not recommended as this may result in injury. Bare feet and metal-studded cleats are not permitted.
- A disc! VUPS, Mountain Equipment Co-op and HtO in Victoria sell regulation weight (175g) Ultimate frisbee discs.
- One dark shirt and one white shirt. Everyone must wear a shirt/top that fits with whether their team is "dark" or "light" for a particular game. "Skins" (ie, not wearing a shirt) does not count as light or dark.
